  • Tenting: You'll need some basic necessities to enjoy your trip. Click here for a packing list to get you started.

North Coast

Dramatic contrasts mark the landscape here, offering an enchanting choice of vistas. Drives along the rugged coast bring unexpected and exhilarating views. Vineyards and wineries, redwood forests, and rolling hills offer tranquility and beauty. As the name suggests, this region hugs the coast in the northern portion of the state. This region extends from Smith River in the north, to Napa in the south.

Napa County. Of California's wine-making areas, the Napa Valley is the best known. Major wineries between the towns of Napa and Calistoga, along Highway 29 and the Silverado Trail, offer tasting, tours, and picnic sites. Fine wine naturally calls for delicious food, and you'll discover superb restaurants in St. Helena, Oakville, Rutherford, and Yountville. To enjoy a non-stop gourmet meal through the entire valley, board the Napa Valley Wine Train for the three-hour passage from Napa to St. Helena and back. St. Helena's shops and those in Yountville are diverting-as is sailing above the scenic vineyards in a hot-air balloon.

Soak in the mud baths and natural hot springs of Calistoga. Travel a short distance to see Old Faithful Geyser periodically erupt 60 feet in the air. Water-sports and camping enthusiasts should head to nearby Lake Berryessa.

Stay at any of our RV parks and campgrounds and you'll be near all the fun! Learn more about the North Coast Region >
