It's not too late to "Squeeze In" a late summer camping trip!

Maybe you put it off last year, but really want to squeeze in some quality time with the family in the great outdoors this year ... it's not too late! There are campgrounds all around California with space awaiting for you. Most of California has had wonderful weather this year so get out and enjoy some cool nights and warm days.

Don't have equipment?

  • To Tent: For the most budget friendly option you can try to borrow a tent. If that doesn't work you might want to rent a tent to try it out. That way you'll know what you like before you buy your own. Outdoorsgeek.com offers a wide selection of tents & gear.
  • Rent an RV: There are a number of prominent rental companies who can help you with a large or small motorhome. The most prominent in California are: El Monte, Cruise America and Road Bear.

SmorePacking to camp - In addition to the tasty camping food you'll be bringing

  • Tenting: You'll need some basic necessities to enjoy your trip. Click here for a packing list to get you started.
  • Renting an RV: Check with your rental company to see what they provide. They sometimes come stocked with pots & pans, dishes, etc. but you'll probably have to provide your own linens. They may have these items for rent as well. Ask them if they have a suggested packing list to make the task easier.

Finding a place to stay.

  • You might want to first consider what you'd like to see or do. Our calendar of events might give you some inspiration.
  • Once you've determined an approximate area to visit you can look for a nearby campground at camp-california.com. Search for a park near the location you'd like to visit. Some of them offer online reservations so you can immediately check if they have availability.

Just pack and go! The plans have all been made and now you're ready to make memories with your family! Don't forget to bring the fixins for s'mores or whatever puts smiles on your campers' faces!

North Coast

Dramatic contrasts mark the landscape here, offering an enchanting choice of vistas. Drives along the rugged coast bring unexpected and exhilarating views. Vineyards and wineries, redwood forests, and rolling hills offer tranquility and beauty. As the name suggests, this region hugs the coast in the northern portion of the state. This region extends from Smith River in the north, to Napa in the south.

Napa County. Of California's wine-making areas, the Napa Valley is the best known. Major wineries between the towns of Napa and Calistoga, along Highway 29 and the Silverado Trail, offer tasting, tours, and picnic sites. Fine wine naturally calls for delicious food, and you'll discover superb restaurants in St. Helena, Oakville, Rutherford, and Yountville. To enjoy a non-stop gourmet meal through the entire valley, board the Napa Valley Wine Train for the three-hour passage from Napa to St. Helena and back. St. Helena's shops and those in Yountville are diverting-as is sailing above the scenic vineyards in a hot-air balloon.

Soak in the mud baths and natural hot springs of Calistoga. Travel a short distance to see Old Faithful Geyser periodically erupt 60 feet in the air. Water-sports and camping enthusiasts should head to nearby Lake Berryessa.

Stay at any of our RV parks and campgrounds and you'll be near all the fun! Learn more about the North Coast Region >
