North Coast

Dramatic contrasts mark the landscape here, offering an enchanting choice of vistas. Drives along the rugged coast bring unexpected and exhilarating views. Vineyards and wineries, redwood forests, and rolling hills offer tranquility and beauty.

As the name suggests, this region hugs the coast in the northern portion of the state. This region extends from Smith River in the north, to Napa in the south.

Stay at any of our RV parks and campgrounds and you'll be near all the fun! Learn more>

Go Recreational Ocean Salmon Fishing in California?Salmon

Yes you can! This year the Department of Fish & Game has opened the ENTIRE CALIFORNIA COAST for Salmon fishing!! That doesn't happen every year. Last year portions of the California coast were closed to salmon fishing. The year, the whole coast is open until September.

This is a good time to try your hand at catching salmon in the ocean. There are specific regulations ... Read DFG flier for more information> Wouldn't freshly caught salmon eaten outdoors with your RVing buddies be fabulous! Make plans today!

RVing Tip - Avoid Nasty Surprises Near Your Propane Tank

spiderDo you have problems with nasty spiders setting up housekeeping in your propane tank compartment? In spite of inspecting your propane tanks and assuring there are no obvious leaks, sometime propane tank compartments can have a slightly sweet smell. This smell is attractive to spiders, especially black widow spiders! An easy way to counteract this is to put some moth balls or hang a flea collar on your propane tank. This fills the compartment with a smell that is not attractive to spiders ... And they’ll search for somewhere else to make their home!

"Where in California" is this?

In April there were NO CORRECT ANSWERS for our contest ... Guess the photos were too difficult to identify. This month we are trying something different. Below is a description of 3 photos found in the 2010 camping guide. You just need to read the description and search the guide for the photo. If you don't have a guide handy you can browse the guide here> (you can also find a link at camp-california.com)

Picture 1: Somewhere in the guide is a picture of a "hot air baloon" floating above Mount Shasta. What page in the guide is the picture located? And, how many parks are listed on that same page that are giving away "scratchers" (so guests have a shot at winning the Crossroads Slingshot trailer at the Claifornia State Fair in July; details on the inside back cover of the guide)?

Picture 2: Somewhere in the guide there is a picture of a frog jumping from left to right. On what page is he presented? And, how many parks listed on the same page honor the RVing REWARDS! card?

Picture 3 (tiebreaker): Somewhere in the guide is a picture of a couple enjoying a jacuzzi while reading books. What page are they presented on? And, what is the name of the park they are at? (Hint: this park received the 2009-2010 "Small Park of the Year" award.)

Good luck searching ... Have fun ... you can win a free camping weekend! Email Camper Rick with your guesses by June 10! Contest Rules>
