1st "Where in California is this" Winner announced

Camper RickHi. Camper Rick here!

What a difference a month makes. We had 198 entrees to the July “Where in CA is this?” and 93 were correct!

The first picture is of Hearst Castle outdoor swimming pool; the second picture is of the San Diego Zoo gondola (including my son & grandson!). There were zero correct answers in June; I guess I went from too difficult in June to too easy in July.

contest winner

We can have only one winner, and this month it is: Wendi Harris (shown here with her husband of 19 years, her son, and KISS – that’s a story all to itself!). Wendi works in the medical field as an Ophthalmic Technician. As a girl, her family use to go to Pismo Beach and Glamis and ride the dunes in a dune buggy or on her 3-wheeler. She states, “What a blast that was!” Now that she is married, she makes camping a very important part of their lives. They camp a lot near Redding, CA at Hat Creek. They also like Yosemite. When they stay close to home they gather friends and camp at Dillons Beach with the free roaming cows. Her second job involves photo shoots and interviews with famous musicians. Hmmmm?!? Wendi has won a 3 day-2 night stay at Frandy Park in Kernville. This prize includes white water rafting tickets. Congratulations Wendi, and happy camping!

Our other finalists were Marta Klass (San Diego), Carol Crabtree (Hacienda Heights), Ted Molter (San Diego), and Tom Earlywine (location unknown). Thanks for your participation and best of luck in future months.

State Park Fees to Increase

California State Parks day-use and camping fees will increase and begin to help offset recent budget reductions and help keep more parks open. The fee increase will help keep some parks open, but not all.

Beginning August 17, day-use parking fees will increase by $2 to $5, and camping fees will increase by $10 - $21 a night. Camping reservations made prior to that date will be honored at the lower price..
