How to have fun with your kids!

scarecrowTry these creative ideas for having fun with your kids:

Pitch in. More than 61 million Americans volunteered last year. Your family can keep those numbers up by searching online for volunteer opportunities by location, age, interest, and skill at Expand your options by going camping and volunteer near your camping destination. You'll have lots of time to talk about your experience while you hike or roast marshmallows!

Pick a pumpkin. Some vendors let you wander the fields and pick the perfect pumpkin right off the vine. Others have picked them for you. Several locations are included on our calendar of events, if all else fails ... go to your favorite grocery store! And once you get home you have several options for even more fun... carve it into a jack-o-lantern, roast the seeds, or roast it for homemade pumpkin pie!

Featured Region: Gold Country

historic Sutter CreekGold, with its glittering promise of the sweet life, once lured into this region more than 300,000 fortune seekers from the far reaches of the world. From 1848 onward, the 49ers, as they were called, staked their claims in the streams and foothills of the Sierra Nevada, covering a 300-mile-long area known as the Mother Lode.

Today you can walk down plank sidewalks, belly up to the bar and order a Sarsparilla, and get a feel for what Gold Rush life was like.

In addition to the rich prospecting history, the area boasts numerous attractions especially interesting at harvest time. Come enjoy fresh squeezed apple cider and pies. Don't overlook the area's fine wineries with winetasting rooms open for you to sample the vintages.
